Your Questions, Answered
Before your Volo league starts you will receive a welcome email with everything you need to know for the league. You will need to download the Volo Sports app where you can view your schedule, chat with your teammates and RSVP for your games.
Signing up for a Volo league as a free agent or small group is one of the best ways to meet new people in San Francisco. Volo will place free agents and small groups on a team that needs additional players.
All Volo basketball teams are required to have a minimum of 9 players on the roster. If you and your crew don’t have a full roster, we’ll merge you with another small group. FYI – merged teams generally have extra players to protect against forfeits. If you’d like to make sure you have a larger or smaller team, you can register as a Volo prepaid team which allows you to determine the number of players on your team.
Coed basketball teams must have at least one female or non-binary player on their roster. During games, a maximum of four men may be on the court at any time.
To help prevent forfeits, teams that do not have enough players to meet the league's minimum roster requirements should open drop-in spots through the Volo app. Opening a drop-in spot allows another Volo player to join your team as a substitute for that night's games only. If your team needs a female player to meet coed roster requirements, captains can create a women-only drop-in spot to ensure the team remains eligible to play. Reminder: Drop-in players are only permitted during the regular season and are not allowed during playoffs
In a Volo basketball game substitutions may be made following the whistle, but ONLY after the substitute has been “waived in” by an official.
If a team leads by more than 10 points at any point during the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half, the remainder of the game will be played as running time. If this lead becomes 10 points or below, the game will return to stopped time. No overtime during regular-season games – games can end in a tie. 1 minute of overtime (if necessary) for playoff games.
